Lipochroman molecule is a powerful anti oxidative ingredient based on the structure of vitamin E.
Alicia Gimenez, Olga Laporta, Marie Ollagnier, Eulalia Gonzalez and Raquel Delgado from Lipotex Active Ingredients and Lubrizol discuss the molecule’s proven anti oxidative and anti-ageing benefits.
Xenobiotics or the accumulative external chemical substances and reactive species have harmful effects on the skin. Luckily skin has a system of endogenous defences, consisting of low-molecular weight antioxidants, like co-enzyme Q10 and vitamins C and E, which directly quench reactive oxygen species (ROS).
The small proline-rich repeat proteins (SPRRs), located in the stratum corner, have a direct role in scavenging ROS. Enzymatic detoxification systems are also responsible for the removal of ROS and xenobiotics. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) catalyses the conversion of superoxide anion to hydrogen peroxide, which can be further detoxified by glutathione (GSH) peroxidase (GPX). The cellular detoxification of xenobiotics generally consists of three phases.
