The VOCs in paint have become a key factor influencing the purchasing decision when a coating is specified for a designate application. When applying a coating, there are four main pollutants, often described as free aldehydes, examples of aldehydes include formaldehyde, hexaldehyde, toluene and acetaldehyde. For the purpose of this article we are focusing on formaldehyde.
There are two methods to improve the indoor air quality when applying a coating. Firstly by lowering the paint emissions and secondly through pollution remediation, which is the scavenging of formaldehyde released after painting. Savannah offers a product for each of these methods.
AEPD VOX 1000 FOR LOWERING PAINT EMISSIONS
AEPD VOX 1000 neutralising amino alcohol is a multifunctional additive for low-odour, low-VOC (volatile organic compound) interior water-based paints. With a very mild odour, high boiling point and low vapour pressure, it is ideal formulating toll for paint producers that need to comply with EU Directive 2004/42/EC.
Its neutralising amino alcohol is a distinct ANGUS amino alcohol that is chemically and functionally similar to AMP (2-amino-2-methyl-1-proponal), but has an additional hydroxyl group that allows for improved freeze and thaw resistant and lower volatility.
The multifunctional nature of AEPD VOX 1000 neutralising amino alcohol allows for significant reduction in primary dispersant, defamer, glycols and coalescing agents.
This not only enables cost optimisation but also helps enhance the dry film properties such as scrub and water spotting. These additives can also contribute to odour and VOC and, therefore, this neutralising amino alcohol allows for further COV level reduction.
Adding AEPD VOC 1000 neutralising amino alcohol the grind will adjust and control pH and can help reduce viscosity while Improving pigment dispersion, resulting in lower primary dispersant levels.
